Ever since the release of Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandana and Kriti Shannon starrer 'Cocktail 2', movie lovers have been reliving the memories of an era ago. The perfect chemistry between Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty in the original film released in 2012 still makes audiences nostalgic. 'Cocktail' portrayed the complexities and swings of modern relationships very simply and realistically.
But many may not know that Saif Ali Khan was not the first choice of the makers for the role of 'Gautam', the main character of the film. In a recent interview, Saif Ali Khan himself revealed the unknown history. He said that although Deepika and Diana were finalized as the two main actresses of the film, the makers could not find a suitable hero.
Says Saif, "They got Deepika and Diana, but couldn't convince anyone as the hero of the film. Perhaps the biggest reason for this was that Veronica (Deepika's character) was so strong and attractive in the film that the other characters paled in front of her." Saif added, "I remember who they approached. I think Emraan (Khan) and Ranveer (Kapoor) were offered the role.
Also, after approaching a few others, I finally said, 'Okay, let's do it.' Time passed." Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor himself turned down the offer of the film, and he also advised Deepika Padukone not to act in the film. But Deepika listened to her heart and gave one of the best and memorable performances of her career in the history of Bollywood. After the release of the film, the audience was so impressed that they started calling her 'Veronica' instead of 'Deepika'.
Later, Ranbir Kapoor also admitted that he himself had made a mistake in understanding the importance of the film.
