On Wednesday, July 30, Sportfreunde Siegen will welcome Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund for a thrilling summer match at the fully packed Leimbachstadion. Over 17,000 tickets have already been sold, creating a sold-out crowd for the first time in years.

The excitement is high as the Leimbachstadion prepares for a historic night under floodlights. Although the stadium’s capacity has changed since the 1960s, the atmosphere is expected to be just as electric as when 22,339 fans attended a match there 55 years ago.

Sportfreunde Siegen come into the match after a strong pre-season and a 3–0 victory over SV Rödinghausen in their Regionalliga West opener. However, they will miss Rikuhei Nabesaka due to a long-term injury.

Borussia Dortmund, led by coach Niko Kovač, only began training for the new Bundesliga season four days ago. Their last official match was a 3–2 loss to Real Madrid in the Club World Cup quarter-finals. This game marks their first pre-season test.

Dortmund will field nearly their full squad, though Nico Schlotterbeck, Julien Duranville, and Emre Can will not be available for the match. The club views this as an important warm-up ahead of a busy season.

Coach Thorsten Nehrbauer of Sportfreunde Siegen sees the match as a great opportunity. He wants his team to be a strong opponent and a good host, adding that the match will help prepare his players both physically and mentally.

The team has stayed focused despite the hype. Nehrbauer noted that players remained committed during the 3–0 win over Rödinghausen, knowing another highlight awaits on Sunday when they face Borussia Dortmund’s U23 squad.

Injury updates show that Malik Hodroj, who broke two fingers during the last match, is expected to return by Sunday. Defender Flo Mayer may miss the match due to muscle issues, with no risks being taken.

Fans unable to attend the match can still watch live on Sky Sport’s YouTube channel, starting at 6:15 PM. The club will also provide a live ticker on their official Facebook page.

Due to the large crowd, a special traffic plan has been set. Fans are advised to arrive early and check the club’s website for parking and transportation details.
