South Dinajpur: A large section of Bengali Hindu society is non-vegetarian. Even during major religious festivals like Durga Puja or Kali Puja, fish or mutton is used as part of the feast. Accepting this reality, the top leadership of the state BJP has made it clear time and again that they will not interfere with anyone's food habits in Bengal.  The Trinamool Congress has often attacked the BJP as a 'Hindi ring party' or a 'party to impose vegetarian culture'.

But even after coming to power, BJP has made it clear that there will be no ban on eating fish and meat. But on the morning of the holiday, the BJP suddenly started 'raiding' Khasi's meat shop. But why?

The BJP leadership raided several meat shops in Islampur on Sunday, accusing them of cheating the common people by selling goat meat in the name of Khasi meat. A lot of excitement has been created in the city over this incident. On Sunday, Islampur BJP town president Chitrajit Roy led several leaders of the party visited various meat shops in the city and inspected the meat sold.

The BJP has complained that goat meat has been being sold in various shops in the city for a long time instead of goat meat. But in the name of beef, the price is being charged up to 1000 taka per kg. As a result, the BJP leadership claims that ordinary consumers are being cheated and are suffering financially.

Chitrajit Roy said, "Common people are being cheated. They are selling other meat in the name of khasi meat and charging extra price. The matter will be brought to the attention of the administration and such operations will continue in the future." On the other hand, a meat trader Mohammad Salam completely denied the allegations.

He said, "Our shop only sells cow meat. The allegations made by the BJP are completely baseless." Ever since the incident, discussion has started among the townspeople. What steps the administration takes to verify the truth of the allegations, is now the focus of the common people.
