Two of Hollywood's most prominent young stars are set to team up for a new animated feature from the studio behind some of the biggest family franchises in recent memory. Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez will lead the voice cast of "Not Alone," an alien-themed comedy from Illumination .
The project marks a reunion for the pair, who previously appeared together in the 2019 film "A Rainy Day in New York" . This new collaboration, however, finds them in a different creative space, lending their voices to animated characters rather than appearing on screen.
"Not Alone" is being produced by Illumination, the powerhouse animation studio known for global hits such as "Despicable Me," "Minions," and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" . The film is slated for release on April 16, 2027 .
Chalamet, who is making his feature-length animation debut with this project, will voice the character of Joe . Described as an introverted rocket mechanic, Joe lives a quiet and solitary existence. His world is turned upside down when he is brought together with Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist voiced by Gomez . Fran is in the process of developing the world's first-ever plant-fueled rocket, and their meeting to prepare for its inaugural launch sparks an immediate, albeit awkward, connection.

The official synopsis reveals that the story becomes more complicated when three aliens — described as tiny, unruly, and adorable — take refuge in Joe's home . Named Dunk, Welly, and Shirm, the extraterrestrials are on the run from a zealous but inept law officer named Zandro, and they soon determine that Fran's revolutionary rocket could be their ticket to safety .
The supporting voice cast includes Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou as the three aliens . "Ted Lasso" star Brett Goldstein has been cast as the pursuing officer Zandro . Additional cast members include Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris in supporting roles .
The film is being co-directed by Illumination mainstays Eric Guillon, who co-directed "Despicable Me 2," along with Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val . It is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, with Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis, and David Distenfeld serving as executive producers .
The announcement of "Not Alone" provides a glimpse into the next major project for both actors. Chalamet, fresh off his critically acclaimed performance in "Marty Supreme," is also set to reprise his iconic role as Paul Atreides in the upcoming "Dune: Part Three" . Meanwhile, Gomez is preparing to portray legendary singer Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic . Their involvement in this animated feature brings a significant level of star power to what is shaping up to be one of Illumination's most anticipated future releases.
